Hands On Photography!

September 28, 2009

Canadian Scrapbooker ‘s website has a great new feature called Hands On Photography!  Written by Sue Sykes, it provides practical info on how to make the most of your camera, and simplifies getting those shots you KNOW are possible with your camera, but you just haven’t figured it out just yet!

It also features photographs submitted by readers who try out the techniques featured!  Here is a link to a photo I submitted, which was featured on the blog on Friday September 25th:  Jump for Joy!

Speaking of photos – I finally found the missing card from our trip last summer!  It has the photos I took in ALert Bay, and on the ferry through the Inside Passage from Port Hardy, BC to Prince Rupert.   Here are a few samples:

What can you do with YOUR camera today!!!??????

A Bug’s Life

August 23, 2009

BEN plus BUGS equals FUN!  While sitting on the dock yesterday a mayfly decided Ben was a great place to stop for a rest!  I was so glad I had my camera!  You can tell by his expression how much he enjoyed being a bug reststop!!!!

We are having a relaxing and restful time at the cabin, its warm and sunny, without the intense heat of the early part of summer.  We are playing lots of cards – Cribbage, Egyptian Rattlesnakes, Go Fish and Uno are the top picks right now, with the adults playing cutthroat games of  Hearts into the late evening!

I can feel the summer season slipping away – the sun is setting earlier, it is cooler at night and I can already feel myself thinking ahead to the fall.  I am purposefully trying to stay in the summer mode – we still have two weeks before school begins and I want to make the most of it.  We are so lucky to be able to have such a long period of concentrated time as a family and I want to savour it!  I think I will take a lesson from Hannah on this one!

Here are a couple more layouts to get your mojo going – I have been busy trying to scrap the ridiculous amount of photos I took last year!!!

Cow Bay in Prince Rupert

Naikoon Prov Park on Haida Gwaii(Queen Charlotte Islands)

Now we are off to Beacon Hill Park petting zoo  with my sister who is visiting from Calgary – the kids are dying to show her the baby goats!  It also looks like a great day for Fisherman’s Wharf and some Ice Cream!!!!

Happy Day,

By the sea.

June 17, 2009

Went for a walk by the ocean and was struck by how absolutely lucky I am to live where I do.  I love the ocean, and to be so close and be able to walk by it anytime seems like an unbelievable gift some days!!!  Even if I am having a really rotten day, the ocean always manages to ground me in a way that is surprising – especially since I grew up in the landlocked prairie province of Alberta.  I take my camera everywhere now – here is a bit of what I saw by the sea. . .

I can’t wait to make a great little album of all of my photos from my various adventures!!!!  Take your camera with you on YOUR next adventure and make a page or an album or mini book about what you see!!!

This rest and relaxation is hard work. . .

June 3, 2009

It has been too long!!!  You would think that since I am currently on a leave from work that I would have more time, not less, for things like scrapping and blogging!!!!  Not so!!!  Since I am supposed to be using the time to get healthy I have been busy hiking and getting active, trying to eat healthy and generally just taking it easy!!

So now I am playing catch up on my scrapping, and spending lots of time outdoors!!  I have set a goal to hike as many of the trails in the Capital Region (in and around Victoria, BC) as I can!  My first day I climbed Mill Hill – which really is a pretty big hill ( 30 minutes straight up!!!)

It has a fabulous view of the Esquimalt Harbour, but the best part of my first solo hiking adventure was this:

Not every day that you see a llama on a hike in suburban Victoria!!  I thought it was hilarious, and knew the kids would love to see  what I saw!!!  Not that the view wasn’t fabulous:

It was a great day!  More to come – and I have actually got to my scraproom – so watch for some new layouts, too!!!

Please notice my attractive scream and closed eyes – yes folks – that’s sheer terror!  My 6 year old Josh, on the other hand, looks like he is out for a Sunday drive!  Only one of the many, many, many photos I have from a great trip!!  We are back from a fabulous week at Disneyland, and when I recover I will post a bit more!!!  Have I mentioned I took a ridiculous amount of photos???
